Senior Data Scientist - Insights

About the role

Preply, an online language-learning platform with 100,000+ tutors and 90+ languages, is hiring a Senior Data Scientist - Insights in Kyiv. You will sit inside a cross-functional squad and work with product managers, tech leads and designers to turn data into insights that shape product decisions. The role sits in the Data Team, which runs hundreds of A/B tests to optimise the product.

Key responsibilities

• Understand the product dynamics, including user behaviour and the economics of the marketplace.
• Gather and analyse data to find insights that shape product evolution and strategy.
• Analyse customer behaviour and product usage, improving understanding of what drives retention and communicating findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Quantify and model the impact of new features and initiatives, helping prioritise the product roadmap.
• Help define KPIs, track events and engagement metrics aligned with business goals.
• Design, run and evaluate large-scale experiments to test new ideas.
• Build relationships with data and technical leaders to drive cross-team initiatives.

Required profile

• Experience in data analytics with product teams, experimenting and finding product optimisation opportunities.
• Experience designing and analysing A/B tests with a solid grasp of the relevant statistics.
• Strong understanding of concepts such as conversion, LTV, cohort analysis and retention.
• Curiosity, problem-solving and critical thinking, with the ability to tell compelling data stories.
• Nice to have: background in two-sided marketplaces or digital businesses, mentoring or coaching experience, and a Master's or PhD in a quantitative field.

Required skills

• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as SQL and Python, writing efficient and scalable code.
• Nice to have: product analytics tools (Amplitude, Mixpanel, Heap), data visualisation tools (Tableau, Looker, Power BI), and familiarity with machine learning for user prediction and recommendations.
