Senior System Engineer / DevOps (Remote Ukraine)

About the role

A global financial market data provider is looking for a Senior System Engineer / DevOps Engineer to join its team remotely in Ukraine. The projects deliver high-quality software for a real-time, high-frequency, low-latency data management system connecting financial markets worldwide. The role covers Linux-based engineering, automation and virtualization supporting real-time development environments.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in project planning sessions with clients, business analysts and team members to analyse requirements and give design recommendations for complex systems.
• Help define and design the scope of each project and work with planning and technology architects so systems align with the IT long-term strategy.
• Develop application and custom integration solutions, including major enhancements and interfaces, and make complex modifications to existing software in line with specifications and industry standards.
• Review effort against application architecture standards and develop new cross-functional software systems using disciplined development processes.
• Carry out unit testing and implement cross-functional systems that meet client and business needs.
• Research emerging technologies, provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to application development teams, and stay current with programming languages and software technologies.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment with little daily supervision.
• 5+ years of experience as a Linux, Windows, VMware and Solace systems engineer or an equivalent DevOps role in an enterprise environment.
• Experience as an IT lab administrator maintaining test environment health.

Required skills

• Expert-level understanding of Linux RHEL 7.x and 8.0, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and 2019, vSphere 6.x and 7.0, Solace PubSub+ and associated software.
• Knowledge of Windows and Linux-based hardware platforms such as IBM, HP and Dell.
• Understanding of RAID storage and TCP/IP networking.
• Nice to have: OS deployment and orchestration tools, automation pipelines, scripts and change processes, HPE enterprise hardware, AWS EC2, containers, CloudWatch, Kubernetes, Route53, Active Directory, and scripting in Perl, C, PHP, VBScript or Python.
