Database Administrator (MariaDB, Cassandra)

About the role

Optiva is hiring a Database Administrator based in Ukraine, working remotely. You will administer and support production database systems, mainly MariaDB environments, ensuring their availability, stability and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and support MariaDB Galera Cluster and master–slave replication
• Ensure database availability, stability and performance
• Handle backups, recovery, upgrades and routine maintenance
• Monitor databases with Zabbix and work with L1/NOC engineers
• Analyze incidents and take part in troubleshooting
• Assist with Cassandra and Percona XtraDB Cluster, and support colleagues on database questions

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator
• Solid understanding of MySQL/MariaDB, basic to intermediate SQL and database internals
• Experience with Linux and shell scripting
• Understanding of replication, backups and performance basics

Required skills

• Nice to have: hands-on Galera Cluster experience, database proxies (MaxScale, ProxySQL, HAProxy), high availability and failover knowledge
• Nice to have: performance tuning, large databases, backup strategies, Zabbix tuning, escalation handling, NoSQL/Cassandra basics, Docker, Ansible, change management, RCA
