Senior Investigator – Air Attacks Investigations

About the role

Global Rights Compliance is looking for a Senior Investigator to join its Mobile Justice Teams (MJTs) in Ukraine. The Senior Investigator provides specialised investigative expertise and guidance, strengthening team capabilities and advancing investigative techniques and methodologies for investigations into air attacks, and helps lead defined sub-projects. The position is full-time and can be based remotely or in Ukraine with a defined rotation and deployment cycle.

Key responsibilities

• Provide investigative expertise and leadership to build national investigative capability into air attacks.
• Advise the team on developing standard operating procedures, tools and methodologies.
• Oversee project deliverables and escalate risks or blockers.
• Identify beneficiaries' investigative needs and deliver training and mentoring on air attack investigations.
• Support relationships with key partners such as the Office of the Prosecutor General, Regional Prosecutor Offices, the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine.
• Help develop the team's visibility and engagement plan with the Legal Outreach Coordinator and Communications Lead.
• Identify future areas of activity and collaboration, and support preparation for mock trials if needed.
• Keep communication flowing with the Principal and Deputy Principal Legal Adviser, team leads, focal points and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• 12+ years of relevant investigative experience in war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide.
• Experience leading large, complex investigations; experience leading investigations into air attacks is desirable.
• Significant experience in live prosecutions, including in a national jurisdiction, and practical ICL and IHL experience.
• Ability to work with highly sensitive material and with the full range of criminal justice actors.
• Fluency in English; fluency in Ukrainian or Russian is desirable.
• Experience in a post-Soviet legal system, in a legal team at an international ad-hoc tribunal, or with justice actors is desirable.
