Senior Adviser – Fair Trial Rights (EUAM Kyiv)

About the role

The Senior Adviser on Fair Trial Rights will support the EU Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Kyiv by providing strategic and operational advice to local justice institutions. The role focuses on strengthening fair trial standards during criminal proceedings, particularly for international crimes, through mentorship, training, and capacity building.

Key responsibilities

• Operationalise the Mission mandate by advising and mentoring local counterparts at strategic and operational levels.
• Identify structural weaknesses in performance and accountability of justice institutions and propose solutions.
• Provide analysis and recommendations on fair trial rights issues.
• Embed within local institutions where security permits and maintain relationships with relevant counterparts.
• Collaborate closely with other advisers and design/deliver training programmes.
• Support development of Free Legal Aid Centres and bar associations, focusing on fair trial rights in criminal proceedings for international crimes.

Required profile

• Norwegian citizenship (mandatory).
• Extensive experience in legal advisory, human rights, or justice sector reform.
• Proven ability to work with government institutions, NGOs, and international bodies.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian is an advantage.
