Head of Payments

About the role

A profitable Ukrainian product startup founded in 2023, which builds personalized health and fitness products for a global audience, is looking for a Head of Payments. The company runs a B2C subscription business across the US and European markets with a fully remote team of 50+ people. The role is fully remote for candidates based in Europe, reports directly to the CEO, and is a newly created position rather than a replacement.

Key responsibilities

• Review the current payment setup and acceptance rate, identify key issues and early quick wins
• Build and scale multi-PSP infrastructure: routing, orchestration, cascading and onboarding of new providers
• Own payment strategy metrics (success rate, renewal rate, recovery rate) and billing logic such as retry, dunning and renewal flows
• Manage processing costs and PSP negotiations, owning payment margin as part of unit economics
• Monitor risk metrics such as chargeback rate and fraud while scaling transaction volume
• Lead and grow the payments team, which currently has 3 people

Required profile

• 3+ years of core payments experience (adjacent experience is a plus, not a substitute)
• Experience in subscription businesses, B2C, mobile or web subscriptions
• Experience with Tier-1 PSPs such as Stripe, Adyen, Braintree and Checkout.com
• Experience with US and European markets and with multi-PSP orchestration, routing and cascading
• Relevant experience at a scale of 3-5M+ transactions per month
• English at upper-intermediate (B2+) level
• Management experience is a plus but not required; senior candidates ready to grow into a lead/head role are welcome
