Senior Desktop Engineer – Electron.js

About the role

At Ruby Labs we are looking for a Senior Desktop Engineer to own and drive a new cross‑platform desktop product from first commit to production. This high‑ownership role combines deep systems work with a modern Electron UI layer, requiring native code on both macOS and Windows.

Key responsibilities

• Own the Electron architecture end‑to‑end, including main, renderer and helper processes, IPC design and context isolation.
• Build transparent, always‑on‑top overlay windows that work across full‑screen, multiple displays and mixed‑DPI setups.
• Design a clean TypeScript platform abstraction and write idiomatic Swift and C++ for native modules.
• Implement real‑time system audio capture (Core Audio, ScreenCaptureKit, WASAPI) and integrate with Accessibility APIs on macOS and Windows.
• Manage code signing, notarization, entitlement configuration, auto‑update pipelines and crash reporting for both macOS and Windows.

Required profile

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with production‑grade TypeScript/Node.js.
• 3+ years shipping Electron applications to end users.
• Hands‑on native macOS development in Swift (or Objective‑C) and experience with system‑level frameworks such as Core Audio or Accessibility API.
• Practical experience writing native Node addons (N‑API) or communicating with out‑of‑process native helpers.
• Demonstrated knowledge of macOS code signing, notarization and Windows Authenticode signing.
