Protection Technical Expert – GBV Specialist

About the role

The Protection Technical Expert (WPE) provides regional technical expertise and coordination support to strengthen gender‑based violence (GBV) risk mitigation, protection analysis, and localisation efforts across designated areas of operation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support GBV risk analyses, safety audits, protection assessments and contextual analyses to inform programme adaptation and advocacy.
• Represent IRC in regional GBV, Protection and inter‑agency coordination mechanisms, serving as the primary focal point for WPE‑related issues.
• Maintain and regularly update service mapping, referral pathways and directories to ensure safe, ethical referrals for GBV survivors.
• Establish and strengthen strategic relationships with specialised GBV service providers, local authorities and women‑led organisations.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and capacity‑strengthening to IRC teams, partners and humanitarian actors.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in social work, psychology, law, human rights, gender studies or related social sciences.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in GBV prevention, risk mitigation and response programming within humanitarian or development settings.
• Proven experience representing organisations in inter‑agency coordination mechanisms and developing referral pathways.

Required skills

• Advanced technical expertise in GBV programming, including prevention, risk mitigation and survivor‑centred approaches.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, networking and partnership management abilities.
• Excellent analytical, report‑writing and presentation skills in English and Ukrainian.
