UAS Operator & Flight Operations Technician

About the role

Shield AI is seeking a UAS Operator & Flight Operations Technician to support autonomous aircraft testing, demonstrations, and flight operations in Ukraine. The role is hands‑on, field‑focused and involves operating fixed‑wing and multirotor unmanned aircraft systems in simulation, ground testing and live flight environments.

Key responsibilities

• Operate fixed‑wing and multirotor UAS in test and operational environments, serving as safety pilot and performing manual recovery when required.
• Support simulation, SIL, HIL, VIL, ground testing and live flight test activities, including GCS operation and mission system management.
• Perform pre‑flight setup, aircraft inspections, launch, recovery and post‑flight documentation, and maintain checklists, packing lists and maintenance logs.
• Configure, transport, maintain aircraft, batteries, radios, networking equipment and troubleshoot/repair systems in the field.
• Ensure compliance with local airspace requirements, operational procedures and Ukrainian UAS regulations.

Required profile

• 3+ years experience operating unmanned aircraft systems in field, test or operational settings.
• Experience with both fixed‑wing and multirotor platforms up to 55 lb (25 kg) and supporting Group 1/2 UAS operations.
• Strong understanding of flight safety procedures, emergency recovery and ability to obtain Ukrainian remote pilot certifications.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel within Ukraine.

Required skills

• Ground Control Stations and telemetry system operation.
• Experience with simulation environments such as SIL, HIL, VIL.
• Familiarity with PX4, ArduPilot flight control software.
• Knowledge of RF communications, datalinks and networking systems.
