HealthCare in Detention Field Officer

About the role

The ICRC Health Unit in Dnipro is looking for a HealthCare in Detention Field Officer to support the implementation, operation and monitoring of healthcare programmes that improve detainees' access to medical services. The officer provides field assistance for the ICRC's health programme for prisoners of war and security detainees, liaising with authorities and partner organisations such as NGOs and international agencies. Start date: December 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Help implement strategies, objectives and action plans to improve healthcare in detention facilities
• Work with the Detention Doctor to support the prison health system, including premises, equipment and staff capacity
• Support training programmes for prison health staff and coordinate with regional prison health services and medical universities
• Update, analyse and report weekly and monthly health databases with key indicators
• Maintain contact with prison health authorities and international stakeholders and advocate for reform
• Assist in ordering and delivering medical supplies, coordinating with ICRC logistics and preparing donation certificates
• Interpret and translate between English, Ukrainian and Russian, and handle reporting and filing

Required profile

• Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit
• Degree in medicine or nursing; public health or health management qualifications are an asset
• At least 3 years of clinical experience in primary healthcare; previous work with prison health services is an asset
• Valid licence to practice in Ukraine
• Fluent English, Ukrainian and Russian
