About the role
The Associate Human Rights Officer will support the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, based in Kyiv, and reports to the Head of Unit. The role involves researching, analysing and reporting on human rights issues, with a focus on gender dimensions and vulnerable groups.
Key responsibilities
- Research and collect information on human‑rights violations, emerging trends and capacity gaps, including gender dimensions.
- Analyse data and assess impacts on thematic mandates and country situations.
- Draft briefing notes, analytical reports, correspondence and other documentation.
- Participate in hearings, consultations and prepare concise summaries of outcomes.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of political and legal developments affecting human rights.
- Ensure compliance with protection standards and safe handling of information.
- Deliver training programmes for law‑enforcement officials, civil‑society representatives and NGOs.
- Review gender‑related human‑rights issues and integrate them into political, humanitarian and economic programmes.
- Support community mobilisation and advocacy efforts to prevent violations.
- Liaise with government bodies, NGOs, UN agencies and other partners to compile baseline data, especially for vulnerable groups.
- Design and maintain databases to track project progress and produce data visualisations for reporting.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of international human‑rights standards and ability to identify related political, ethnic and gender‑based issues.
- Experience in researching, analysing and reporting on human‑rights data.
- Proficiency in drafting analytical documents and briefing materials.
- Familiarity with gender‑sensitive approaches and protection of sensitive information.
- Ability to work collaboratively with governments, NGOs, civil‑society organisations and UN entities.
- Excellent communication, coordination and advocacy skills.
