Staff Data Scientist – Growth, Retention & Marketplace

About the role

As a Staff Data Scientist you will own the data strategy for a critical product domain such as Growth, Retention, or Marketplace. You will partner with Directors and VPs across Product, Engineering, and Business to shape long‑term strategy, influence investment decisions, and ensure the roadmap is grounded in rigorous, scalable measurement frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a strategic understanding of key value drivers—user behavior, marketplace dynamics, pricing, and unit economics—and translate them into actionable decision frameworks for leadership.
• Define and execute the long‑term measurement and experimentation strategy, designing large‑scale experiments to test new ideas and assess business impact.
• Lead deep analytical investigations into customer behavior and retention, turning ambiguous questions into structured analyses that drive step‑change improvements.
• Own impact modeling and scenario analysis for major product initiatives, providing robust forecasting and risk assessment for quarterly and annual planning.
• Define and govern key metrics, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with company‑wide objectives.

Required profile

• Proven track record of materially influencing product or business strategy in complex environments.
• Expertise in experimentation and causal inference, especially when clean experiments are not feasible.
• Strong understanding of subscription and marketplace economics, including LTV modeling and pricing trade‑offs.
• Technical proficiency in SQL and Python, with ability to review and elevate the analytical work of others.
• Experience mentoring senior data scientists and contributing to the growth of the data organization.
• Ability to influence Directors and VP‑level stakeholders and drive clarity in high‑stakes strategic discussions.
